Once in a blue moon, you meet someone who truly redefines the meaning of success. Dr. Johan Beukes is such a personality. An acclaimed leadership coach, an inspirational speaker, an authentic living enthusiast – Johan’s illustrious persona is just the tip of the iceberg. You see, he has made it his life’s mission to escort us through the labyrinth of achievement and is now lifting the veil with an electrifying online series aptly named DIE ANDER KANT VAN SUKSES.
So, what’s hiding beneath this seemingly grandeur phrase? Allow me to decode. Translated, it simply means ‘The Other Side of Success.’ But don’t be fooled by its simplicity, for the wisdom it entails is profound, almost enigmatic. Through candid conversations with several South African achievers, Johan invites us on a journey to explore success in its unadulterated, raw form.

“I reckon folks often glamourise success,” begins Johan, as he explains his brainchild project. “But the truth is, once you nab what you’ve been hankering after, new challenges and opportunities come knocking. My series, DIE ANDER KANT VAN SUKSES, is an attempt to give people a sneak peek into what lies on the other side.”
Now, who better to lead us through this expedition than Johan himself? With more than two decades of experience coaching leaders and their teams, he’s guided thousands of individuals and organisations around the world. His commitment and dedication are awe-inspiring, but it’s his passion for sharing his knowledge that truly sets him apart.

Dr. Beukes, what’s the spark that ignited your curiosity about the hidden sides of success? How has this perspective shaped your approach to the “Die Anderkant van Sukses” series?
“People are guided towards and romanticising success, but as they become more successful they are feeling unsuccessful, even doubting themselves, lonely, overwhelmed, complacent, struggling to discern what’s next, many losing their souls as they navigate through life. I want to come alongside them, on the other side of success…”
You’ve got quite the knack for getting people to open up on camera, something not everyone can do. Have you always been a natural conversationalist, or is it a skill you’ve honed over time?
“I am very curious about people and how they go about functioning optimally. I love people and questions.”
You are not just randomly interviewing folks, but creating an entire series. That sounds like quite the adventure! What’s been the most surprising part of this journey so far?
“Most surprising is that many successful people do not see themselves as successful, they LOVE what they do and want to get better at it while growing as people…”
As a high-performance leadership coach, you’re no stranger to success. Have your experiences in that role influenced your perspective while working on this series?
“For sure, there are not many people who are accompanying successful leaders as they navigate life on the other side of success. I’ve learned from them.”
These intimate chats you’re having with influential figures – they’re not your typical run-of-the-mill interviews, are they? Can you let us in on any unique techniques you use to make your guests feel comfortable and open?
“I am journeying with people through my ‘Profound 8-movement model for deep change’ during the interviews.”
This series feels very personal like you’re truly passionate about it. Would you say this project has changed the way you view success and achievement?
“This project enlarged my capacity to coach successful people and leaders while deepening my understanding of success.”
How do you decide who to invite on the show?
“Personal relationships, “Gut feel” invitations”
You’ve been leading this series with such energy and enthusiasm. Has working on “Die Anderkant van Sukses” influenced or changed any aspects of your personal life?
“It encouraged me to take full responsibility for rekindling my passion for life and leadership. It reminded me to focus on constant and never-ending improvement of my skills and knowledge (becoming wiser) while I become who I was meant to be.”
It’s clear you have a deep respect for authenticity. Can you share a moment from the series where a guest’s honesty really resonated with you?
“I was very fortunate that in every single interview, I was gifted with more than one moment with ‘raw authenticity’.”
Your series is helping people see success in a different light. What do you hope viewers will take away from it?
“I trust that viewers will experience a ‘reality check’ about the ‘other side of success’. I contemplated if I should use ‘the darkside of success’ as the name for the series but I realised that there are many gifts as well. You are not alone on the other side of success…”
Finally, if you were to describe the experience of creating “Die Anderkant van Sukses” in three words, which ones would you choose and why?
“Surprising – people have many different definitions for success. Fascinating – to hear the stories on how people became and remain successful. Exhilarating – as I resonated with what inspired the interviewees”
