In the heart of Joburg Theatre, the atmosphere is crackling with the same vibrancy as the stage lights for Janice Honeyman’s rendition of “Peter Pan.” This pantomime is a ticket to joy for all ages, coaxing out beaming smiles from children and adults alike. Trust me… I was smiling more than some of the kids that were sitting near me!
Taking the helm as the ever-youthful Peter Pan is Sandi Dlangalala. Though a newcomer to the pantomime scene, his performance would have you believe otherwise. With a song in his heart and a spring in his step, he embodies the eternal child with such zest, you’d half expect him to soar out of the theatre! Having already snagged an acting award, it’s hardly a shock to see Sandi shine in this role too.

Enter Ben Voss as the notorious Captain Hook, a seasoned pantomime villain who knows just how to get the audience jeering and laughing in equal measure. His portrayal has garnered him accolades in the past, and this time is no less triumphant. His on-the-spot thinking with responses to the crowd truly added some hilarious moments.
Michael Richard delivers heaps of chuckles as the bumbling Smee, Captain Hook’s loyal sidekick. With a theatrical career spanning half a century, Michael’s comedic timing is nothing short of impeccable, leaving audiences in stitches whenever he appears.
Kiruna-Lind Devar graces the stage as Wendy, her voice a melody that’s soared through many a musical theatre production. She captures Wendy’s innocence and awe perfectly, reminding us of the time when dreams of flight and adventures in Neverland seemed possible.
Then there’s David Arnold Johnson, donning the outrageous garb of Dame Clementina Coconut, a character he portrays with such hilarity that you can’t help but surrender to laughter. His second pantomime outing, and he’s already stealing hearts with his wit and wardrobe wonders.
The enchanting Virtuous Kandemiri flutters in as Tinkerbell, a refreshing newcomer who infuses the role with just the right mix of pep and sparkle – exactly what you’d expect from Neverland’s favourite fairy.

And let’s not forget the stellar ensemble cast who keep the energy sky-high with their harmonious vocals and lively dance steps. With the addition of LED screens, the mythical Neverland is brought to life, inviting you to step into a world where imagination reigns supreme.
The mastermind behind this festive treat is Janice Honeyman, who writes and directs with a finesse that ensures the pantomime hits all the right notes for a family-favourite spectacle. The symphony of melodies, choreography, and radiant lighting weaves together to create a heartwarming extravaganza.
The entire production is a whirlwind of delight and a splendid way to usher in the holiday spirit. It’s a top-notch pick for anyone keen to bask in the magic of togetherness and celebration.
Mark your calendars: the fun unfolds from the 3rd of November to the 24th of December 2023. Don’t miss the chance to sprinkle a little fairy dust on your festive season!
