Our beloved Zip Zap Circus, the heart and soul of Cape Town and Johannesburg, is once again ready to steal the show in 2023. Yes, you read it right! Their award-winning spectacle, MOYA, is making a grand comeback. This time, it’s jazzed up with new, original music, awe-inspiring acts, and a fresh narrative designed to stir your soul. Mark your calendars because this August and September, the circus is coming to town!
Last year, Zip Zap Circus set the bar high. They mesmerised us with sold-out performances across Cape Town, Mkhanda, and Johannesburg. Their fanfare echoed internationally during a 3-month tour across France and Switzerland. Our hometown circus made us proud by earning two nominations at the renowned Naledi Theatre Awards for MOYA, an exciting blend of contemporary and traditional circus storytelling.
Brace yourself for a rollercoaster ride, as MOYA will return to the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town from the 3rd to the 6th of August, 2023. But that’s not all! Johannesburg, you’re next! The spectacle will roll into The Teatro at Montecasino from the 31st of August to the 10th of September, 2023.
MOYA 2023 isn’t just your run-of-the-mill circus show. It’s an elevated experience featuring gravity-defying aerial skills, a juggling masterclass, a nail-biting acrobatic wheel routine, and an array of Zip Zap tales. To sweeten the deal, Zip Zap is also introducing a dash of comedy and acrobatics to entertain us, dance sequences to set our hearts racing, and a brand-new original score composed by none other than Josh Hawks, the former bass player of Freshlyground.
