Get ready, action fans! The South African film premiere of the highly anticipated movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, made its explosive debut at Montecasino in Johannesburg on 20 March 2023, and I’m here to give you the inside scoop. With an all-star lineup of celebrities in attendance, a packed cinema, and a martial arts demonstration to kick off the evening, this event was as action-packed as the film itself!
A Night of Glitz and Glamour
The red carpet was rolled out for the who’s who of South African celebrities, including Refiloe Maele Phoolo, Cassper Nyovest, Clint Brink, Gerald Steyn, Johnny Potsanyane, Liam Bosman, Reze-Tiana Wessels, Righard van Jaarsveld, Sandi Schultz, Deon Groot, Jaid River, and Muller Brandt. The star-studded guest list didn’t stop there – media personalities and other VIPs also joined in the fun, ready to catch a first glimpse of the latest instalment in the John Wick saga.
Epic Action with a Side of Snacks
Before diving into the heart-pounding action, guests were treated to an assortment of tasty snacks and refreshing beverages, giving them a chance to mingle and fuel up for the evening ahead. The pre-show entertainment took the form of an exclusive martial arts demonstration from Andre’s Taekwondo Academy that had everyone on the edge of their seats, setting the stage for the breathtaking action that would follow in the film.
A Journey to Freedom: The Story Continues
Picking up where John Wick: Chapter Three – Parabellum left off, Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the impeccably dressed, notorious hitman John Wick. This time around, Wick must navigate a perilous path to take down the High Table – a powerful council of crime lords – and face off against a new enemy with dangerous alliances spanning the globe.
Reeves is joined once again by Laurence Fishburne as well as action icon Donnie Yen, who portrays newcomer Caine, an ex-assassin and an old friend of Wick’s. Ian McShane returns as Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel, with Lance Reddick as the ever-loyal concierge, Charon. Bill Skarsgård also makes an appearance as a member of the High Table, adding to the already impressive cast.

If you thought the previous John Wick movies had set the bar high for action, brace yourself for Chapter 4. The film pushes the limits of its iconic action sequences, featuring adrenaline-pumping shootouts, intense martial arts combat, and mind-blowing stunt driving.
