As the old adage goes, “In a galaxy far, far away…“, a golden protocol droid had us all gripped, not just with his fluency in over six million forms of communication, but also with his innate charm. Remember C-3PO, the fussy, fretful droid from Star Wars? The heart-warming android who possessed all the warmth, worry and fussiness of a Victorian butler trapped in a sci-fi spectacle? His earthbound alter ego, Anthony Daniels, is making his way to Johannesburg, coming to us live from that very distant galaxy.

Comic Con Africa, the continent’s grand spectacle of pop culture and entertainment is beside itself with joy (not unlike C-3PO when he saw Master Luke safe after the Battle of Yavin), to announce that Anthony Daniels, will be gracing this year’s event. The man behind the golden metal plating of the most famous protocol droid will be a special guest at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, from 22 to 25 September 2023.

Anthony Daniels, for those few who might be unfamiliar, has stamped C-3PO on our collective consciousness since his first appearance in the Star Wars saga in 1977. With his endearing mannerisms and his unmissable, unforgettable voice, he breathed life into a machine and became a household name globally. The jittery droid, a beacon of etiquette in the space opera, has starred in all nine episodes of the main saga, cementing his place as a timeless character in the Star Wars universe.

Show Director of Comic Con Africa, Carla Massmann, shared her elation, “We’re over the moon to welcome Anthony Daniels to Comic Con Africa. He’s truly left an indelible imprint on pop culture, and we can’t wait for fans to meet this living legend. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to come face-to-face with an actual part of the Star Wars saga.”
