The Peoples Theatre is set to thrill young audiences, parents and all those with a love of joy, music and laughter, with its newest production, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. The show, directed by Jill Girard and Keith Smith, is based on the smash DreamWorks animated film and follows the journey of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on a hilarious and unexpected journey to the world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
The musical adventure will keep families entertained during the school holidays, with previews starting on March 14th at The People’s Theatre and the official opening on Sunday 19th March. The show runs through Easter holidays until April 23rd, making it the perfect entertainment option for families looking to bond over an unforgettable theatrical experience.
The talented cast, featuring Luciano Zuppa as Alex the Lion, Nonhlanhla “Noni” Mkhonto as Gloria the Hippo, Lesedi Mpshe as Melman the Giraffe, Manyano Ngoma as Marty the Zebra, and Raymond Skinner as King Julian, is sure to bring these beloved characters to life in a way that’s never been seen before.

“Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR is hilariously funny, where each and every crazy creature is brought to life,” says Jill Girard. “Songs like ‘I like to move it’ and ‘Best Friends’ will entertain in this joyous and funny adventure, which like all good stories, ends happily ever after.”
For those looking to enjoy the show during the week, school shows will be held from Tuesday to Friday at 9 am and 11 am. The public can enjoy the show at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm on weekends and school holidays. Tickets are priced at R165 per person for members of the public, R130 for members of the Peoples Theatre Kids Club and R140 for accompanying public members.
