Esté Gross, the singing sensation and wordsmith extraordinaire, is no stranger to the South African stage. The renowned radio presenter, newsreader, and programme compiler have long captivated audiences with her harmonious melodies and poignant prose. Now, she’s back, adding yet another impressive title to her name: author.

She has recently published a collection of her best columns, entitled WEERKAATS. And as if that wasn’t enough, her fourth single, WEERKLINK, is now gracing the airwaves, a fresh testament to her multifaceted talent.
WEERKLINK takes inspiration from Matthew 22:37’s words, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” As Esté penned this spiritual pop song, she discovered a profound peace and awareness of divine grace. This song, beautifully produced by Gideon Botes, is more than a melody; it is a prayer for God to stay near, and Esté hopes it brings strength and encouragement to all who lend their ears.
The message she hopes to share through this song is simple yet profound: seek the Lord’s presence, reflect Him in our lives, find peace and rest in His company. The beauty of this message is not just heard but seen in its accompanying music video, available online and on TV. Filmed at the exquisite Campagne Living by the Common Ground Collective team, Dylan and Marike du Plessis, the video echoes the song’s longing for God’s presence and the need for childlike spontaneity and faith.
Esté’s new single follows in the illustrious footsteps of her previous hits, including Deur die Storm and Hemelruim. The latter was awarded the Aitsa award for best spiritual song of the year in 2022.
Her newly published book, WEERKAATS, is a compilation of columns she wrote for Beeld and Netwerk24 from 2017 to 2023. The title embodies the essence of life’s reflections – both what reflects outwardly from us and what is mirrored inwardly onto us from the outside world. The columns capture Esté’s experiences and perceptions of being human, making this book a deeply personal and profound journey.
Despite the initial trepidation she felt about submitting her work for publication, the project holds great significance for her. It’s a tribute to those who believed in her, supported her, and helped her live out her writing passion.
When she’s not on stage, Esté continues to spread her talents on the airwaves at Pretoria FM, hosting several music programmes. Her illustrious career includes acclaimed music series, stage productions, several ATKV Mediaveertjie nominations for journalism, and national Radio Awards nominations for best newsreader in 2022.
The future holds many hopes and dreams for Esté, but for now, she’s focused on her current projects and the people dear to her. Because for her, music and writing are about touching people in the smallest of ways while doing what makes her happiest.
WEERKLINK and WEERKAATS are now available on digital platforms and selected bookstores, respectively. Don’t miss out on this compelling blend of music and prose from one of South Africa’s most talented artists.
WEERKAATS is published by Naledi and is now available in selected bookstores or at www.naledi.co.za.
