The curtains are about to go up on a unique spectacle in the Cape Town theatre scene. ImproGuise, the city’s oldest and most adored improv troupe, is poised to take the stage at the Galloway Theatre, one of their favourite haunts. The magic they promise? Two nights of fully improvised musical theatre! The show, cheekily named ‘Less Miserable,’ guarantees a laugh-out-loud experience.

Each performance by ImproGuise is nothing short of a brilliant showcase of spontaneity and creativity, blending the joys of musical theatre with the unpredictable spark of improvisation. Add to this a team of the most talented 4th year Drama students from the prestigious Waterfront Theatre School, and you’ve got an unforgettable theatrical treat.

On the 18th of August, the ImproGuise veterans are set to mesmerize with “Tribute”, a show entirely dedicated to a made-up band. But the twist is – the audience has the reins! The name of the band? That’s entirely up to the audience. What follows is a mockumentary-style showcase of the band’s life, filled with vivid characters and original songs, all based on the audience’s titles. This hilarious and high-energy performance promises to have viewers questioning whether it was really all made up on the spot!

The laughter doesn’t end there. On the 19th of August, the ImproGuise ensemble will take improvisation to a whole new level with “Fake Place – The Musical”. Imagine creating an entire fictitious town on the spot, complete with eccentric characters, their unique stories, and then setting it all to music. That’s the unpredictable thrill that Fake Place – The Musical promises. This format leaves you with no idea what will happen, offering a night full of surprises!

Indeed, this is improvisation at its best – it’s unpredictable, eccentric, hilarious, moving, and utterly outrageous. Each show kicks off at 7h30pm, with tickets costing R120 and a discounted price of R90 for students.
