The term “mint” carries multiple meanings, from an aromatic plant to a place where coins are made. In the world of music, MINT is set to become synonymous with excellence and networking. MINT, a new Music Industry Networking event, is held on the first Thursday of each month with the goal of connecting music industry professionals. Whether you’re a musician, producer, funder, vocalist, or marketing and PR professional, MINT aims to bridge gaps and foster opportunities within the South African music industry.
Breaking Barriers in the Music Industry
The music industry can be notoriously difficult to break into, particularly in South Africa where there is often a lack of support and respect for musicians and those behind the scenes. MINT addresses this by creating a platform where industry professionals can share knowledge, network, and collaborate. The event emphasizes the importance of mutual support and the creation of opportunities for all involved.
Inaugural Events Setting the Stage
June saw the first MINT event with Jonathan Shaw, producer and owner of iBillion, who enlightened attendees on the intricacies of copyright, particularly in the context of an AI-driven world. July followed with producer Matthew Fink discussing what it takes to produce a world-class album. Both events featured networking opportunities and performances by talented musicians such as Refilwe Sediti, Dumisani Vilakazi (Bones), Eaz’52, and Matthew Peaceful.
