Shane Wyntock – the suave CEO of Synergy properties – is on the verge of a bold yet hugely disruptive development in Lower Woodstock. George Megalos – a controversial, sleazy and abrasive strip club owner has run his business, in the area, for the greater part of fifteen years. One fateful evening George barges in on Shane’s plush office and slams an eviction notice he’s received down on the table. What follows is a tense stand-off, ceaseless battle of wills with devastating secrets revealed.
Palmer’s signature dark comedic writing style has kept audiences enthralled with Fleur Du Cap nominated highlights such as Bench (2012), The Visit (2017), andin 2019, The Room, which John Maytham described as “wonderful … with superb dialogue”.

Seasoned theatre and film actors Brent Palmer and Clyde Berning take on the roles of George Megalos and Shane Wyntock caught in a nail-biting stand-off. Two men, from vastly different backgrounds, willing to put everything on the line in their quest to protect what is theirs.
Palmer, who won the Fleur Du Cap for best actor, is no stranger to mainstream and independent theatre; last seen in his nominated performance in Scott Sparrow’s Dinner with the 42’s, directed by Greg Karvellas at the Masambe Theatre. Palmer has performed in a number of plays at the Fugard Theatre and beyond, including Bench, The Father, A Steady Rain, The Kingmakers, and The Room amongst many more.
Clyde Berning is no stranger to the theatre world, having performed in a number of mainstream and independent productions, including Mass Appeal, Janet Suzman’s Hamlet, The Visit, Cowboy Mouth, directed by Chris Weare.
KING GEORGE will be onstage at the Theatre on the Square, Sandton from 21rd April to 4th May 2024. It carries an age restriction of 13 years for explicit language. Tickets are available online through Computicket or directly through the theatre.

Brent Palmer (Writer, Actor, Producer)
Brent Palmer is an award winning and multi-nominated writer, actor and producer. In 2024 he won the Fleur Du Cap award for best actor in a leading role for his role as George Megalos in King George. Five of his plays have been nominated for Fleur Du Cap theatre awards. Palmer has performed in a number of plays at the Fugard Theatre and beyond, including Bench, The Father, A Steady Rain, The Kingmakers, The Room and Dinner with the 42’s. In 2015 he received the SAFTA award for Best Short Film, Picture Perfect Heist, which he co-produced with BenchFilms. This year, in collaboration with Ari Kruger and Sketchbook Studios, Palmer wrote and produced a short film titled King George. He has been featured on many television shows like Tali’s Wedding (Showmax), Those Who Can’t (SABC 3), Our Girl (BBC) amongst many more.

Clyde Berning (Actor)
Clyde graduated from UCT with a degree in Theatre & Performance. He then went on to play Laertes in ‘Hamlet’, Eros in ‘Antony & Cleopatra’, Slim in ‘Cowboy Mouth’, Mark Dolson in ‘Mass Appeal’, Dakin in ‘The History Boys’, and more recently, Nick Arnstein in ‘Funny Girl’. He won a Naledi award for his role as Dakin in ‘The History Boys’ (2012). He has also appeared in local and international series and films such as ‘Black Sails’, ‘Bloodshot’, ‘Monster Hunter’, ‘Known Gods’, ‘Montana’, ‘Die Byl’ and ‘Shooting Stars’. More recently he has been seen in Universal’s ‘Redeeming Love’ as Rab, ‘1923’ for ParamountPlus & ‘Death of a Whistleblower’ for eVOD & Amazon. As a Creative Producer he is developing exciting new proudly South African content which includes music videos and the ’Small Town TiVi’ show with hip-hop artist, producer King Melisizwe. As a Director he is focusing on films that address themes of integration, racism, conservation, the underdog, biodiversity/climate-change & the power of community, all through the prisms of dark comedy, satire and, of course, drama. He lives in Plettenberg Bay with his awesome wife and three stupendous kids.

Adrian Collins (Director)
Adrian Collins is a Cape Town based, internationally experienced actor and local director. Although he has worked primarily as an actor, his focus is switching to directing, with a passion for creating Low-Fi independent theatre and film. Working with great scripts but around low budgets to create understated, beautiful, funny and thought provoking work that addresses the absurdity and schisms of our lives and existence. He’ll be directing King George back to back with Pierre Malherbe’s Bucket Boy at the Masambe theatre. His directorial credits include; Apple Face, written by Pierre Malherbe, Keith Huff’s A Steady Rain, Richard Kaplan’s The Finklestein’s Are Coming To Dinner, The Room, also written by Brent Palmer and the short film Gcobisa, produced by Lika and Clyde Berning.
