Why do guys ejaculate? What do testicles actually do besides just awkwardly sitting there? And, are there any parts of a penis that are more sensitive than others? Male genitalia might seem self-explanatory, but there’s a lot hidden under the surface that affects a guy’s health and sexual functioning.
Whatever you happen to call it, the penis is an odd-looking bit of kit. However, it is a really important part of the survival of us as a species. If you see the penis purely from an evolutionary standpoint, it has done remarkably well.
We can all say without too much doubt that we all came from some working man’s member. Your dad, and your dad’s dad. and their dad and so forth. They all worked, and here you are today. Reading this article.
The penis is ancient, like really really old. The oldest known penis dates back 425 million years, and its fossilized remains belong to an arthropod dubbed Colymbosathon ecplecticos, which means “amazing swimmer with a large penis” in Greek.
The penis can be a very complicated tool of man with various different parts that make it an entire experience in the end.
It is common for babies to exit the womb with an erection. Even before the moment of birth, ultrasound scans sometimes show a fetus with a fully formed erection. Therefore one can say penises are literally born ready to do the job, of a Uhm, penis?
Let’s start off with some good news, if you are a member of the penis having kind, the great news is that your penis is twice as long as you think it is. Bad news though, around half of its entire length is housed inside of our bodies.
Since it needs to remain connected to the rest of the anatomy, it is probably best it stays all up in there… for safekeeping sake!
Ever heard of the term, nocturnal penile tumescence? No, what about morning wood? yes?
Most men have 3–5 erections every single night and regularly wake up to a ‘woody’ in the morning.
Now, what about the term called angel lust or terminal erection? So we have already established that from birth an erection can happen, during sleep an erection can happen and now angel lust or terminal erection is basically an erection at death. It can happen in the moments after death. How bizarre.
Did you know that you can also break a penis? Even though the penis does not have an actual bone in it, it most commonly can occur during vigorous sex or falling out of bed with an erection. Penile fracture, as it is known, is actually the rupture of the fibrous covering of the corpora cavernosa, which is the tissue that becomes erect when engorged with blood. Luckily this does not occur very often.
Another interesting fact that many wonder about is the ejaculation process. Ironically, this seems to be a no brainer kind of moment. Most men have very little control over exactly when they ejaculate. This is partly because it does not involve the brain. The signal to ejaculate comes from the spinal ejaculation generator. This region in the spinal cord coordinates the necessary functions.
Of course, the higher brain functionality still exists, where you can ‘think’ of other things to delay the ‘explosion’ – but the nuts and bolts of the whole operation are dealt with in your spine. so you are literally putting your back into it. Hard work hey?
So what about the size of a penis?
Some are big, some are small. some are girthy and some are not so girthy. You get all shapes and sizes but can you really determine the final product by just having a glance at a flaccid appendage? Well, no. There is actually no correlation between the length of a flaccid penis and the size of an erect penis.
Some start out small and end up large while some are large from the start and pretty much remains that size. The same for the opposite, some are small whatever state they might be in and could remain that way as well. It is a lucky packet, where each one can be quite unique. This is where the terms, a grower vs a show-er originates from.
So therefore never judge a banana by the tree it’s hanging from.
Men can’t always get erections back-to-back because their penises basically just ran a marathon. Every penis is different. Some can do back-to-back sex sessions, and others need to take a break and rehydrate. It’s what’s known as a refractory period.
What about good Penis health?
Age, health conditions, mental health, hormone levels, medications, and much more can all have positive and negative impacts on the general health of a penis.
Having a good and healthy diet can only be beneficial for your wellbeing. Getting in those two litres of water a day to stay hydrated can ensure your risk of erectile dysfunction is lessened.
Regular physical exercise and stress management techniques can also greatly improve your penis health.
Plus avoiding alcohol, tobacco and drugs will always be a positive impact for your main member.
How to properly wash your penis.
You can wash your no no area using warm water and unscented, mild soap. Don’t use harsh soaps or scrub the area too hard, as the sensitive skin in the area can be irritated quite easily for a lot of people.
Make sure you:
- Wash your pubic mound and the skin around the base of the penis, as well as the skin between your thighs and your pubic mound. Sweat can collect here.
- Wash the shaft of your penis.
- If you have a foreskin, gently pull it back and wash it. This helps to prevent smegma build-up, which can lead to conditions like balanitis.
- Wash your scrotum and the skin around it.
- Wash your perineum (the piece of skin between your scrotum and anus).
- Wash near your anus and between your butt cheeks.
Plus, I do feel that I need to say this, wash and clean every time you shower or bath. This should never be up for debate.
While you are down there also be on the lookout for any kind of unusual discharge, rashes, warts or blisters which could be symptoms for STI’s – if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please do go to your doctor immediately. Get ahead of it before it gets worse.
Remember, many STIs are asymptomatic, which means that you won’t have any noticeable symptoms. For this reason, it’s important to get tested before having sex with a new partner. Both you and your partners should get tested.
What about grooming down there?
Some choose to go all-natural all the time, others prefer the occasional trim while some go a more cosmetic type approach with chemical hair removal treatments. Each to their own with regards to this as peoples preferences and needs can vary and there is nothing wrong with liking things the way you do.
Always just ensure you are hygienic at all times, clean and sterilise those razor blades, trimmers or wax paper. Use a good quality product and moisturise properly afterwards.
If you’re unhappy with your body, whether it’s the size of your member or any other part of your body, remember that everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way. There is no right or wrong way. You are blessed and self-love is always important. Focus on things you do like, maybe you have broad shoulders or a killer smile. Try to be as healthy as possible and do regular exercise. This is good for your body but also your mind. Don’t become consumed with your penis size as you can still sexually satisfy your sexual partner regardless of your size.
Don’t compare yourself to pornstars, athletes or models you see on social media. You will only develop an unhealthy and very unrealistic image of what is normal and how you should look.
Spend more time on things you enjoy pursuing, like sports, hobbies, travelling or anything that will spark creativity and good mental health.
